Hey Everybody: First off, we're all alive and O.K. in Columbus Ohio. Phil was the only one injured. He received 4 stitches in his right thigh and lacerations on his right knee and both hands. He's fine otherwise. Harv & J.J. were sleeping when this happened and are both fine. I'm alright also, although I'm kinda pissed off at myself, but accidents happen and this was the 1st one we were ever in, and everyone's o.k. We slammed into the back of a very slow moving Kenworth Dumptruck yesterday at 10:30 a.m. heading south on I-71. It was raining and I looked down to get a cigar and Phil said to watch the road and he'd get me one. When I looked up there was a dumptruck about 2 feet in front of us. Neither Phil nor I even saw this truck that was doing about 25 m.p.h up a hill. It hit the brakes and severed but hit the truck with the front passenger corner of the Argosy Airstream. Phil was knocked to the floor as the front corner was smashed in, then the window shattered and sprayed Phil & I with glass. The front section collapsed like a styrofoam cup, absorbing all the impact. I felt very little impact. Just a soft bump, kind of. The Argsoy is a mess. There's no front right corner of the vehicle anymore. It looks like a bomb went off in that front corner. I'll send pictures when we get 'em. Phil was carted off on a stretcher and taken to Mansfield Hospital in Ohio. He received 4 stitches in his right thigh, lacerations on his right knee and left arm, and cuts on his both hands. He's fine though. Phil said he won't be my co-pilot for a while though. :>) We'll be in Columbus Ohio for most of the weekend. Our next gig is wednesday in Allentown, Pennsylvania. I think we'll probably rent a van or truck as "The Grommett" is parked in Buffalo, N.Y. I got a $141 fine for following too close, or something like that. I'm not really sure as I was kind of in shock around that time. Oh....I think part of the fine was for not wearing a seatbelt. |
